Journal sticker A place to carry all the Bugsnax you've collected!

The Snakpack is an management inventory "tool", simply just a backpack, specifically the view ones Bugsnax inventory.

The Journalist is in possession of the backpack at the start of the adventure and wears it upon being knocked off their airship. The Snakpack is never shown in the game as all management is done through the Journal. Backpack models are present throughout the game, carried by the current expedition team and left behind by previous ones. They all show to be the same model - Beffica being the only one with an own design. The shadow of the supposed backpack does not show in the Journalist's shadow model.

The Snakpack effectively carries the caught Bugsnax (and supposedly all other objects shown in the Journal) where the same logic of hammerspace is applied as for the consumption of the Bugsnax - when a Grumpus is fed, the Bugsnak is visualized as shrinking in size. This visualisation is not backed up by lore and how the bugs could realistically be carried and/or fit in the Snakpack is not explored in the fiction.

There are three inventory upgrades to the Snakpack in size, granted upon donating a certain number of different Bugsnax to the barn. The Snakpack starts off with a capacity to carry up to 6 Bugsnax. Upon donating 6 different types of Bugsnax, this capacity expands to 8 Bugsnax Upon donating 12 different types of Bugsnax, this capacity expands to 12 Bugsnax Upon donating 18 different types of Bugsnax, it will be expanded to the final capacity of 18 Bugsnax. A total of 36 different types of Bugsnax need to have been donated.

More bugsnax types appear in a biome upon the departure of a(n) Grumpus/expeditionee taking their residence there, such as Sweetieflies and Snakpods. Some Bugsnax require certain tools for capture. The Snakpack can easily be fully upgraded before having unlocked the outer biomes.

  1. In context of the game story-line and treatment of Gramble, it is unclear from whose perspective the act of donating snax is described as 'a nice thing to do'.
  • The Snakpack is written as 'Snakpack' in the SubtitutesLiterals.xml and 'SnakPack' in the Screens>Journal folder which has names such as 'Tripwire' and 'Hookshot' which are the file descriptive names and not the in-game names.
