Large, aggressive, and destructive. Best to be avoided.
It's like if all my favorite foods hated me!

Preying Picantis is a mantis-like Bugsnak made of various Mexican foods. It is found natively in Sizzlin' Sands, though one is encased in ice in Frosted Peak.

If its fire is extinguished, it can break into a Cheepoof, two Tacroaches, and an Incherrito.

Strategy[]

Preying Picantis is an aggressive, formidable Snak. Once it notices the player, it will chase them, and contact with this spicy Snak will set the player ablaze. Picantises are found on stone platforms, and if the platform is high enough, it may not care to follow the player off. In this case, the Lunchpad can be used to launch it onto the sand below, where it can be strategically lured.

In order to capture a Picantis, it must be stunned and extinguished at the same time, allowing it to be caught in the Bug Net. This can be achieved by having it come into contact with a Flapjackarak's whirlwind, where it will be safe to capture upon hitting the ground. Alternatively, Picantis' fire can be doused by Sodie D or by luring it into the oasis, and it can then be stunned using the Trip Shot or by a Loaded Spuddy's attack.

If a Picantis is extinguished and not stunned in time, it will break apart into its component Bugsnax.

Trivia[]

  • Breaking a Preying Picantis is the only way to encounter a Tacroach.
  • The thorax of Preying Picantis resembles a taquito, as do the arms, hands, and legs of a Grumpus transformed by it. There is no taquito-based Bugsnak, however.
  • "Picantis" is a portmanteau of 'Picante' and 'Mantis', with Picante being the Spanish word for "spicy". Its name contains "Preying", rather than "praying" as in "praying mantis", likely to allude to its aggressive nature.
