The main quest, the Big Story that ties all main quests together, is that of the disappearance of Elizabert Megafig, the expedition's leader and the one to invite The Journalist to join them. The Journalist requires to find Lizbert as per their boss Clumby Clumbernut's demand to have an interview with the (in)famous explorer on the account of the existence of Bugsnax.
Filbo requests the Journalist to seek out all the scattered expeditionees and bring them back to Snaxburg and conduct Interviews to unraffle what has become of Lizbert through each individuals own findings and observations.
Upon this completion, Major Celebration! follows and marks the Point of No Return which escalates into the conclusion of the story and Lizbert's main quest.

Elizabert Megafig has disappeared from her own expedition. If I'm going to find her, I need to interview every Grumpus here and find clues to her whereabouts.

What is this place?
This? This is the island's true form. It's Bugsnax all the way down.

It's disgusting once you understand what Bugsnax really are.

They're parasites. They get inside you and they... change you. Your body and your mind. They make you want them and before you know it... you become them.

It's not that simple. They're insidious. Patient. You'll show them a weakness, and they'll exploit it. What you see here, this is what's left of everybody who came before us. Of every living thing that wasn't Bugsnax. They ALWAYS win!
What happened to you?
After I saved Eggabell, I fell into this place. Before I knew what was happening, I was swarmed. Bugsnax were crawling down my throat. They tried to erase me, to make me into them.

I almost lost myself. But somehow, I pushed back. I made THEM into ME.
